Ausone 2010
The wines of Alain Vauthier have been exceptional since he took full control of Ausone, and the 2010 vintage is no exception. This wine, which comes in limited quantities with only 1,500 cases produced, boasts a deep inky/blue/purple color. The bouquet is exotic and seamless, with notes of incense, Asian spices, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. The wine is full-bodied, with a striking minerality and a magical combination of complexity, substance, and nobility. Despite its full body, it has softer tannins compared to other vintages, making it more approachable in its youth. This wine is expected to be drinkable in 6-8 years and can be stored for up to 50 years.
Ausone 2015
The 2015 vintage of Ausone is a blend of 50% Cabernet Franc and 50% Merlot, aged in French oak barrels, 85% of which were new. The wine has a deep garnet-purple color and is bursting with aromas of plum preserves, wild blueberries, cherry pie, roses, licorice, Indian spices, baker's chocolate, new leather, cedar chest, and a touch of underbrush. On the palate, it is big, rich, opulent, and full-bodied, with bold blue and black fruit flavors, supported by firm and finely grained tannins, and a fresh and seamless finish. The wine leaves a long-lingering exotic spice aftertaste.
