Description
Description
Georgian wine is one of, if not the oldest wine produced in the world. For 8,000 years, this small country has been producing wine continuously within its borders, making it a fascinating crossroads of viticulture. With a storied past that included being one of the republics of the USSR, this stretch of green valleys and mighty rivers on the Black Sea is finally getting recognition for its unique and remarkable wines.
Using their own indigenous grape varieties, including Rkatsiteli, Saperavi, Chinuri, Aladasturi, Krakhuna, Kisi and over 400 others, they produce wines using both the “international method” of aging in barrels and vats, and the ancient method of aging in terracotta pots they call qvevri.
This comprehensive guide contains detailed profiles of the wine producers, as well as GPS coordinates, full-color photographs and informative maps. Whether you are a seasoned connoisseur or a newcomer, this first edition is an absolute must, offering an immersive experience in the world of Georgian wine.
