98/100

James Suckling

The aromas of currants and flowers with hints of stones and sandalwood are enticing. Medium- to full-bodied, with an impressive structure of polished yet intense and focused tannins that run the length of the wine. Both the acidity and tannins play off each other, giving a punchy character. A classic Cheval. Only 13.3% alcohol. 52% cabernet franc, 43% merlot and 5% cabernet sauvignon. For a decade or so, this wine never had so much cabernet franc. Needs four or five years to soften. Drink after 2029.

93/100

Wine Spectator

Polished and inviting in feel, offering notes of dark cherry and plum puree infused with black tea, followed by persistent echoes of warm stone, violet and bay through the lengthy finish. Lacks the density of a classic, but displays a seamless feel that avoids the austerity of the vintage. Great effort. Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2040. 6,058 cases made, 462 cases imported.

Description

Compatibility

Chateau Cheval Blanc 1er Grand Cru Classe "A" is a distinguished red wine suited to formal dining, cellar collection, and important gifting. Presented here in a wooden gift box, it is particularly appropriate for occasions where presentation matters as much as the bottle itself.

This wine pairs naturally with refined red meat dishes, roast lamb, game, and carefully prepared mushroom or truffle-based cuisine. It is also well suited to being served at a composed dinner where structure, depth, and balance are central to the table.

Color

In the glass, Chateau Cheval Blanc shows the deep ruby to garnet tone associated with fine Bordeaux red wine. Its appearance is clear and concentrated, reflecting the seriousness of the estate and style.

The wooden box presentation adds a classic finishing touch for collectors and gift buyers, while the wine itself remains the focal point.

Scent

The aromatic profile of a wine of this standing is typically centered on dark berry and plum notes, layered with spice, mineral character, and measured oak influence. The bouquet is structured and polished rather than overtly opulent.

As a leading Bordeaux from Chateau Cheval Blanc, it is defined by detail, freshness, and depth, with a profile that suits attentive service in proper stemware.

Taste

On the palate, this red wine is expected in style to be full and finely structured, with ripe fruit, integrated tannins, and a balanced framework shaped by freshness and length. The texture should be composed and layered, with the depth associated with top-tier classified Bordeaux.

Its format in a wooden gift box makes it an excellent choice for collectors, corporate gifting, or marking a significant occasion, while the wine itself offers the poise and complexity associated with Chateau Cheval Blanc.
