The 2020 vintage was the first release under the estate's new technical director Jean-Emmanuel Danjoy and immediately showed outstanding balance, precision and depth. Many critics compared the style of the wine to the legendary 1986, noting its combination of concentration, freshness and almost ethereal elegance. Chateau Mouton Rothschild is also known as the first Bordeaux estate to begin bottling its wine at the château itself, back in 1924, which was a revolutionary step for the region. Since 1945 every Mouton label has been decorated with an original work by a well-known artist; for the 2020 vintage the label was created by Peter Doig. Mouton Rothschild produces large formats such as the Double Magnum in extremely limited quantities, and for that reason these bottles are considered among the most sought-after by collectors.

The purity of blackcurrants, blueberries, creme de cassis, and flowers. Hints of subtle spearmint. Iron. Blood orange. Medium-bodied with a compacted palate, like a cylinder of perfectly ripe fruit and fine tannins. A million layers of tight-grained tannins. It goes on and on. Such freshness and weightlessness to it. Ethereal. New classicism. Modern take on the 1986. 12.79% alcohol. 84% cabernet sauvignon, 13% merlot, 2% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot. Drink after 2030 but hard to not drink now.
