Straight from the bag with an aperitif. The producer also uses them in desserts, where the salt and paprika cut the sweetness, and serves them alongside cocktails.
Appearance
Chandler walnut halves and quarters, hand-roasted and coated in a glossy golden-brown caramel of whole cane sugar, sea salt and sweet La Vera paprika, finished with a light film of extra virgin olive oil.
Aroma
Toasted walnut over warm caramelised cane sugar, with a faint sweet-paprika note from the coating.
Taste
A restrained caramelisation - far less sugary than a traditional garrapiñada - so the walnut leads. Extra virgin olive oil stands in for butter and, with the sea salt, gives a salted-caramel effect, while the sweet La Vera paprika adds a savoury edge. Soft and crunchy at once. Gluten-free, lactose-free and suitable for vegans.
