The 2007 Screaming Eagle is wonderfully harmonious and drinkable at this stage, showcasing fabulous scents of cigar box, ripe cherries and cassis. Full-bodied, creamy and lush yet not showing any excess weight, it's a beautiful aged Oakville Cabernet, soft, silky and elegant, with great length on the finish. Given its flawless sense of proportion and balance, it should drink well for at least another decade. Readers who prefer their wines more mature may opt for additional cellaring time, but when a wine is this good it's hard to resist.

Wow, love or loath the style, this is full throttle on the nose and palate with pure fruit and raspberry jam. Black currants and blueberries. Full and flamboyant but then holds back with gorgeous berries and milk chocolate. Wonderful length. Fascinating. Better in 2015.

A wine with a purpose, notably dense, dark, rich and layered. Fairly powerful, but what stands out is the finesse and agility, centered on ripe plum, anise, dark berry and light cedary oak. The tannins give the flavors traction, yet they're sufficiently ripe to let the flavors flow unobstructed. -- Blind 1997/2007 California Cabernet retrospective (January 2017).
